New decking options widen the choice
As the popularity of decking continues to grow and new technology makes it easier and more cost-effective to install, decking is no longer limited to the traditional option of a pressure-treated timber frame and deck. Wood-resin composites offer a more durable and lower-maintenance alternative with a non-slip, splinter-free surface.
Clients and their designers are looking for ever more adventurous ways of creating decking areas with added wow factor. Large deck areas split between different levels and divided with planters and screens add drama to the design. Glass balustrades ensure safety while extending uninterrupted views from roof terraces, while mood lighting prolongs socialising late into the evenings.

Aluminium joists make easy work of installation
Raaft joists for timber decking are an innovative new product that makes deck construction easier, faster, and more cost-effective. Designed to handle an unsupported span of up to 1.5 metres, they also significantly reduce the number of support pedestals required and give designers more flexibility to explore creative opportunities.
With easily interlocking connections between joists and bracing struts, the deck framework is soon set out with the strength of the joints massively increasing the frame’s stability. placed at regular intervals make it easy to get the levels right and create a stable platform for the decking to be fixed to.
Raaft joists for timber decking are available in milled aluminium or powder-coated in dark brown (RAL 8028), and are compatible with the rest of the Raaft Terrace System, including our planters and floor structure panels.
At Raaft, we also have strong environmental credentials – made from 80% recycled material and 100% recyclable. The natural corrosion resistance of aluminium also ensures an extended usable life well beyond that of pressure-treated timber.
